![]() NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop wants the city’s education plan to be handed over to the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) to manage and implement next year. He explained that two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed in 2016 and 2019, but neither were implemented. The 1 million kina building was funded by the Lae City Authorithy under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister and Lae MP John Rosso. It's a state-of-the-art facility that will accommodate eight different classes all at once. The building is equipped with modern technology, comfortable seating, and all the necessary resources for an optimal learning environment. According to Kwikila police, the man from Duma village in Chuave, Chimbu, had three cannabis plants uprooted from his house. One was ready for harvesting. They were grown among tomatoes and cabbages. ![]() A retired 59-year-old female teacher has spent the past two years chasing after the Education Department for her finish pay. Anna Saweni had been teaching for 32 years. In 2021, after confirming with the Madang education board that her file had been sent to Port Moresby for processing, Saweni got on the plane and travelled to Port Moresby. She had been waiting since then without anyone at the national office shedding light on her predicament. Saweni confirmed that she had received her retirement benefits from Nambawan Super Limited soon after she retired in 2020. “Since Oct 2021, no money has been paid to my account, so I decided to come to Port Moresby and check the salary office at headquarters myself. FIFTEEN students will benefit from K275,000 worth of scholarships funded by the Swire University Scholarships programme, Steamships Trading Company Ltd managing director Rupert Bray said.
Bray said the scholarships would be funded by John Swire and Sons Ltd and would come in two forms. “The two scholarships that would be available under the programme are Swire University Scholarships (SUS) and Taikoo College Scholarships (TCS),” he said. ![]() FIFTEEN participants from the Health Department, Port Moresby General Hospital and School of Medicine and Health Sciences attended a Nursing Education and Management Course in China. The training was held in Chongqing Medical and Pharmaceutical College from Sept 6-24 and was supported by the Ministry of Education of China. The coordinator for the 12th China Medical team, Eric Niu, said the training was aimed at providing all-round support for the training of nursing talents in PNG. ![]() Wewak School of Nursing has prematurely suspended classes for first and second-year students for the remaining four weeks of the academic year due to financial difficulties. School principal Jorim Zira, in a circular, said: “This comes about as a result of the financial predicament the school is facing.” He said the school would only keep third-year students to complete their studies. “We cannot run the school alone on student school fees at this time when there is inflation in the country,” Zira said. “This is beyond the school’s administrations to deal with at this moment. ![]() ACTING PNG Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Department secretary Fr Jan Czuba says all universities in the country will soon introduce and follow a standardised organizational structure. Czuba told The National that universities were established at different times, hence having structures aligned with the academic system that was in place made sense. “We would like to see that all universities have four divisions which are academic, research, administrative and student services,” he said. “We have to ensure that the universities work as one body, with office of the president, vice-chancellor and university council. |
