![]() Lese Oalai Primary School is one step closer to opening its first ever library thanks to a partnership between the Australian Government Direct Aid Program (DAP), local and international community groups, the Kerema District Development Authority, and the Gulf Provincial Government. A 40ft shipping container filled with school desks, books, and other materials from Donations in Kind (DIK) Geelong recently arrived in Gulf. Communities and schools throughout the province shared the materials with villagers traveling great distances to collect and distribute the items, including some who made the long journey by canoe. The Lese Oalai Primary School community is now working to convert the shipping container into a library that will be used by the school and the surrounding communities.
Lucy Loko of the Peter Loko Foundation is leading the project together with the Australian Government Direct Aid Program (DAP), RARE Southern DIK Geelong, the Rotary Clubs of Boroko, Torquay and Bayside Geelong, the Kerema District Development Authority and the Gulf Provincial Government.
