Grade 12 History Examination Topics

The PNG History Subject Syllabus prescribes topics and units that are taught at the Upper Secondary Schools (Grade 11 and 12).  History is a specialised subject that requires a high level of English competency. Students need to be fluent in reading, writing and speaking English for research, report writing and oral and written presentations. History is the study of patterns and interactions between people and their environment. It incorporates active inquiry and research skills using primary and secondary sources, oral histories, maps, texts and fieldwork. The National Examinations for history at the end of Grade 12 examines all the knowledge and skills learnt during the course by students at the upper secondary level.

gRADE 11 hISTORY eXAMINATION tOPICS AND UNITS 

​There are three main topics and units in Grade 11 History. These topics are covered in the history National Examinations at the end of Grade 12. Students must be knowledgeable in in these three topics in order to sit for the National Examinations in Grade 12. The three Grade 11 units and topics are outlined as follows.

• The Great Depression and the rise of dictators

Unit11.4 : World War II and its Aftermath
10 weeks

• Changes in Asia (1900–1950)
• World War II (1939–1945)
• World War II comes to Papua and New Guinea (1939–1945)
• Australia in Papua New Guinea (1945–1975)
