![]() A GRADE Nine teacher, 30, from Hoodpoint High school in Central’s Hula, was arrested last Tuesday on suspicion of growing marijuana in his backyard. According to Kwikila police, the man from Duma village in Chuave, Chimbu, had three cannabis plants uprooted from his house. One was ready for harvesting. They were grown among tomatoes and cabbages. Police said when the man saw police arrive at his house, he left the classroom and went straight to the officers to surrender.
Central provincial police commander Chief Insp Laimo Asi said the suspect was arrested and charged with cultivating drugs under the law and was locked up, awaiting trial. Asi, who had been vocal about the behaviour of students, teachers and parents at schools in the province, was outraged over the news. “I spoke about students’ behaviour in schools I visited in the province since I started my role as a provincial police commander due to a decline in student numbers from Central going to tertiary institutions,” he said. “I am not satisfied that the behaviour of the teaching staff is also not good, and we will see this result when fewer students are selected from tertiary institutions to colleges.” Asi said he would meet with the school management this week to discuss the issue. He said he was grateful to the leaders and residents for providing information to police who responded and arrested the teacher. TheNational/PNGEducationNews Also Comments are closed.
