![]() AUSTRALIA has always been a friend, and has helped in a lot of important nation-building projects in Papua New Guinea, says Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Housing and Urbanisation, John Rosso. He was the guest speaker during the opening of infrastructure projects at the Catholic-run, Mary Immaculate Girl’s Technical Secondary School in Dirima, Gumine District of Chimbu Province, last Tuesday (Sept. 20). “I acknowledged the work of the Australian Government, through the PNG Australia Partnership Initiative. This school is one of the outcomes of the partnership, through the Incentive Fund.” ![]() CLASSES at the University of Goroka have been suspended for two weeks following damages to the hall of residence on Sunday 11th September which has also destroyed structures at the University in Goroka. This follows a decision handed down by the top management team in consultation with the academic senate on Monday at the University of Goroka. About 1500 students were displaced with no proper accommodation as the 7 story dormitory known as one of the iconic buildings at the University was condemned for use by authorities last Sunday. ![]() TWENTY-ONE schools, excluding elementary schools, in Southern Highlands affected by violence during the 2022 General Election have been closed and students will repeat next year, according to an official circular. Classes were suspended from Monday, the provincial education board circular said. The schools are Mendi Day and Nipa Secondary, Karinz High and Uma Junior High schools, Mendi Technical Vocational Education Training Centre and 16 primary schools in the Nipa-Kutubu and Mendi-Munihu electorates and within the Mendi township. ![]() Tuition fees for Gulf students attending the Bomana Sacred Heart Teachers College will be paid as assured by Kerema Open MP Thomas Opa earlier today. The first term MP visited the students and announced that under the Kerema Hope Foundation, all outstanding tuition fees for this year will be settled for all students from the Gulf Province. "We will also pay their tuition fees for next year 2023," Opa announced. The Pangu Pati stalwart said that these future primary school teachers will return to Gulf Province and teach the next generation of the children in both districts of Kerema and Kikori respectively. A RETIRED teacher has expressed concern on the lack of English being used especially in remote schools in Papua New Guinea.
Margret Baik, 69, who spent PNG’s 47th independence anniversary at Iwol Primary School in Salamaua local level government, observed teachers interacting with their students in Tok Pisin. “I did not hear any English spoken by students either and when I enquired, the teachers said the students could not comprehend English so Tok Pisin had to be the main language for interaction,” she said. ![]() The Education Department has released the 2022 Education Vacancy Gazette. THE Assembly of God (AOG) Church will be establishing a new Teachers College in Mul LLG of the Mul-Baiyer Lumusa Electorate of Western Highlands Province, under the guidance of Jubilee University administration. The ground breaking ceremony for the new AOG Kiminga Teachers College was held yesterday in Pin council ward at the proposed site. Members of Kiminga AOG church had reason to celebrate because through their prayers to God, people in authority finally arrived to give assurance for the establishment of the college in their humble village. The event was well organized, colourful and on a fine weather. ![]() GORDON International School students and staff were privileged to participate at the 11th National Parliament official opening last month. Principal Jennie Kaupa told The National that it was their first experience to be part of an important programme for the government. “This is the first time for our children to sing the national anthem especially at the Parliament house opening,” she said. Kaupa said teachers had brought students for excursion to Parliament in the past but this was the first time for them to participate in special event. ![]() Schools around Morobe's ten Districts that divert the Morobe Provincial Government infrastructural grants that were issued to schools during the former Governor Ginson Saonu, will be held accountable. This warning was issued by Morobe's Deputy Provincial Administrator for Social Services Robin Bazzinuc. Mr Bazzinuc confirms that a total of K12 million was issued last year to 29 secondary and high schools, 9 TVET centres, 2 FODE schools and 3 private and permitted school around Morobe. |
