Acting PNG Prime Minister Rosso Launches School Infrastructure Projects, Thanks to Australia9/25/2022
AUSTRALIA has always been a friend, and has helped in a lot of important nation-building projects in Papua New Guinea, says Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Housing and Urbanisation, John Rosso. He was the guest speaker during the opening of infrastructure projects at the Catholic-run, Mary Immaculate Girl’s Technical Secondary School in Dirima, Gumine District of Chimbu Province, last Tuesday (Sept. 20). “I acknowledged the work of the Australian Government, through the PNG Australia Partnership Initiative. This school is one of the outcomes of the partnership, through the Incentive Fund.” “Australia has helped us built hospitals, and numerous health facilities. Australia has always been with us, and assisted us in our time of need,” Rosso said.
The Australian Government through the PNGAus Partnership and Incentive Fund provided funding for the infrastructure upgrade for a girl’s dormitory, two quadplex teacher’s residence, ablution facilities for teachers and students, a garment tech classroom, and an ICT classroom. High Commissioner for Australia to Papua New Guinea Jon Philp said the school is a very good example of what Australia is proud of supporting in PNG. “We’ve provided, through the Incentive Fund, K6.4 million to upgrade the facilities of this school,” he said. “The overall aim of the project is to enable more girls to come to this school and get an education, and to reduce the overcrowding in the current dormitory, and to improve the current facilities in general.” Rosso said the completion of the project highlights the success of a team that came a long way, from what was once started as a vocational school for girls in 1991, to now a well-established Girl’s Secondary School. He thanked the Catholic Church for the school, and the people of Dirima, for looking after the school, and supporting the Catholic Church to ensure the school was operating over the years.
