![]() GORDON International School students and staff were privileged to participate at the 11th National Parliament official opening last month. Principal Jennie Kaupa told The National that it was their first experience to be part of an important programme for the government. “This is the first time for our children to sing the national anthem especially at the Parliament house opening,” she said. Kaupa said teachers had brought students for excursion to Parliament in the past but this was the first time for them to participate in special event. “Gordon is the first school in the International Education Agency (IEA) to participate in this event and we are privileged,” she said. “We see this as a good opportunity for our school to expose our students to Parliament house, the guard of honour and the Parliament itself with what goes on inside is an exciting experience for us.
“We are very happy for this opportunity because it showcases how our students are taught to conduct themselves in public places. “We are like ambassadors for the IEA system and it’s because of the way that we prepare them. Twenty students from 8CH class attended the event with their teacher Cynthia Honering, music teacher Aaron Murray and music assistant Alphone Kohari. School vice-captain Kengy Kult said the experience was exciting. “For Parliament to choose us was a privilege and we got to feel how it’s like when other schools participate,” he said.
