Schools around Morobe's ten Districts that divert the Morobe Provincial Government infrastructural grants that were issued to schools during the former Governor Ginson Saonu, will be held accountable. This warning was issued by Morobe's Deputy Provincial Administrator for Social Services Robin Bazzinuc. Mr Bazzinuc confirms that a total of K12 million was issued last year to 29 secondary and high schools, 9 TVET centres, 2 FODE schools and 3 private and permitted school around Morobe. Mr Bazzinuc says the K12 million funding was allocated to these educational institutions for Infrastructure development on or before the eve of the recently concluded 2022 National General Election.
Yet Mr Bazzinuc says only 76 school infrastructure projects were completed with 24% failed projects among the 38 schools who were in receipt of the MPG Infrastructure grant. Morobe's Deputy Provincial administrator Social Services also confirmed that the schools that had failed to deliver projects from that K12 million grant will be investigated by police and prosecuted. He says legal action will be used because the heads of these 38 schools singed an agreement between the respective schools and the Morobe Provincial Government to deliver school infrastructure projects using that grant. Meanwhile, the Crime Investigation Division of Police, audit teams and the Fraud Squad have begun investigations.
