Despite being situated in the heart of Port Moresby, the Holy Rosary Catholic Primary School at Six–Mile has been neglected over the last 40 years.
Since its establishment in the 1980s, the school existed without much progress being made to refurbish its aging and deteriorating infrastructure. Senior teacher and board member John Mote told The National during a brief visit this week that the school had not gone under any major renovation in the last 10 years. ![]() TEACHER appointments for the 2023 school year may be delayed because the Papua New Guinea Teaching Service Commission (TSC) is being locked out of its office, says chairman Samson Wangihomie. The TSC and the Education Department are housed at Fincorp Haus in Waigani, Port Moresby. The landlord locked the building for the non-payment of rent. “We are all over the place at the moment,” he said. “There are challenges at this point — our divisions are scattered in different locations and not under the same roof.” ![]() THE PNG Defence Force (PNGDF) plans to introduce a student cadet programme in schools to instil discipline and respect in young people, it has been revealed. Force commander Major-General Mark Goina said it would involve students from Grade One to Grade 12. “We need to instil discipline and respect in the young generation, and we need to start right at the bottom,” he said. Goroka Police Station commander Senior Inspector Paul Nacca said Vianny Guken, 23, from East Sepik’s Wosera-Gawi, was a third-year accounting student. “The murder has displaced many university students residing off campus,” he added. “The availability of alcohol and other activities restricted on campus had been left unsupervised.” ![]() The Marape Government will soon introduce a revised Education Policy and expansion program, to address unemployment, law and order problems and youth engagement. Prime Minister James Marape announced the Government's plan for the sector in a statement recently. Mr. Marape said the Government is aware of the main issues affecting the sector, and is working to revitalize it. ![]() The University of Papua New Guinea is posed to offer, for the first time, Bachelor’s Degree programs at the Yangoru-Saussia District University Center in 2023. Discussion for the programs to be offered for the first time outside the university’s main Waigani campus have reached advanced stages with a MoA to be signed in the coming weeks. A visiting UPNG delegation led by the Acting Registrar of UPNG, Roboam Kakap, was impressed with the Yangoru-Saussia District centers facilities which has two model classrooms and the Director’s four-bedroom house. ![]() The Papua New Guinea Government is aware of the main issues of unemployment, youth engagement, and Law and Order and is working on addressing these through a revised Education policy and expansion program. Prime Minister James Marape made these remarks recently, encouraging Papua New Guineans to continue having faith in their Government.
