The landlord, Grand Columbia Limited – GCL - says outstanding rental payment of over 39-Million-Kina since 2018. Today FM100/Hot97FM News visited Fincorp House, and confirmed it is still locked up. A notice at the gate from Samson Wangihome, the acting Teachers Services Commission Chairman to its TSC clients and teachers, reads that due to the closure for non-payment of rental arrears, TSC has suspended its counter and TSC Client services for an indefinite period. The notice is dated the 31st of October, which had been the last day of a time frame given by landlord GLC to arrange for payment. ![]() More than 300 teachers from schools around the country are marking the Grade 12 Examination papers in Port Moresby. Specialists teachers who teach the different grade 12 subjects are hosted in different hotels in the city as marking commences. The marking of those scripts are expected to be completed by Friday this week. There are over 29,000 grade 12 students who sat for the national examinations this year. According to the Measurement Services Division, over 32000 students were nominated to sit the exams but due to election related issues and closure of some schools, the numbers reduced to nearly 29 0000. ![]() PNG EDUCATION Minister Jimmy Uguro says he has instructed the department to collect information on students affected by the eviction exercise in Morata, Port Moresby. Uguro said they wanted to know how many Grade 8s, 10s and 12s lived at the Morata One area so the department could help where necessary. “I’m concerned about the welfare of school-aged children, especially those sitting for the final exams in the coming weeks,” he said. Uguro urged parents to ensure they secured permanent settlements so such exercises wouldn’t affect their children in future. ![]() Papua New Guinea EDUCATION Department employees are expected to be locked out of their offices at FinCorp Haus in Port Moresby on Monday, because of outstanding rentals totalling K39 million. Grand Columbia Ltd (GCL), the owner of the building, issued a notice of the lockout to the department yesterday. It said that in the past 24 months, only two months’ rent was received, “and significant rent remains outstanding as far back as 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020”. ![]() An independent investigation has been directed to look into the incident of a mistake that appeared in this year's Grade-12 Geography examination question papers. Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra told NBC News that Education Minister Jimmy Uguro has directed the investigation and is to have the report ready by mid-next month. Kombra says at the Department level they are aware of the cause of the problem but an independent body needs to carry out its own findings and make recommendations so that the issue is addressed. ''The Terms of Reference (TOR) have been drafted already and we are going to engage two independent investigators with good knowledge of the department's systems and with integrity to conduct the investigations,'' said Dr. Komra. ![]() The Papua New Guinea Department of Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will pave way for staff housing scheme. Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra and National Housing Corporation (NHC) Managing Director Henry Mokono signed the MOU recently on the Duran Farm Housing Project – Portion 528. The signing paves way for the two organizations to work collaboratively to ensure that the housing scheme is realized. A pleased, Dr. Kombra said this is the first attempt by the Department to engage in a housing scheme for its officers and the journey so far was long but worthwhile. ![]() POLICE in Papua New Guinea have arrested and charged a Southern Highlands teacher with raping and impregnating a 14-year-old schoolgirl. The girl’s family lodged a police report after they found that she was three months pregnant. The girl named her teacher as the father, saying that they had been having an affair for nearly two years. Police said that they charged the teacher with statutory rape as the age of consent for sex in Papua New Guinea (PNG) for girls is 16. Her mother said she was heartbroken to find that the trust she had in the public education system was broken. ![]() All schools throughout the country will be receiving their final quarter of the Tuition Fee Free (TFF) funds this week. Papua New Guinea's Education Minister Jimmy Uguro announced today that they will be releasing the remaining K158 million anytime this week. GRADE Eight students of Nangananga Primary School in the Raluana local level government, Kokopo, East New Britain, are sitting their examinations with supervision from parents, leaders and teachers.
The school had been closed for the last three weeks following fights between two wards, Vunaulul and Livuan, which also led to the killing of a man and damaging of properties. The decision to close the school came after an agreement made by all senior community heads and was supported by the people. He made these comments while questioning Higher Education Minister and Kandep Open MP Don Polye to explain why he had not captured the National Executive Council (NEC) approved ‘early childhood policy’in his report presented in Parliament recently. “On July 28, 2022, NEC has approved the early childhood policy for implementation, but I have realised that you have not included this in your report,” he said. |
