![]() POLICE have detained three suspects in connection with the murder of a University of Goroka undergraduate in a drunkard brawl on Saturday. Goroka Police Station commander Senior Inspector Paul Nacca said Vianny Guken, 23, from East Sepik’s Wosera-Gawi, was a third-year accounting student. “The murder has displaced many university students residing off campus,” he added. “The availability of alcohol and other activities restricted on campus had been left unsupervised.” Nacca said the murder occurred in Okiufa Village when Guken, returning from a function at about 3am in the morning, got into a drunkard brawl with a group of students.
“Guken’s was found sprawled by locals and he was rushed to the Goroka Hospital and a police report was lodged,”he said. “Guken was put on life support which was disconnected after his parents arrived and their consent were given. “I would like to assure parents and the administration that police are currently conducting investigations into the matter and the suspects have already been detained.” Nacca is also appealing to the faction of students involved in the incidents to help police with witness accounts of the murder. “I would also like to appeal to students in schools and institutions of higher learning nationwide to be cautious, especially during this year-end peak period of festivities,” he added.
