![]() THE PNG Defence Force (PNGDF) plans to introduce a student cadet programme in schools to instil discipline and respect in young people, it has been revealed. Force commander Major-General Mark Goina said it would involve students from Grade One to Grade 12. “We need to instil discipline and respect in the young generation, and we need to start right at the bottom,” he said. “We hope to run this programme for students from Grade One to 12 so that we can raise a generation that is disciplined and have respect for the laws of our nation.”
He said the military was discussing with the Education Department the details and how it would work as part of a nation-building programme. He also said they were also working on a Kumul leadership programme targeting school prefects during the holidays. “We already have a framework and we hope to achieve this by next year. Basically we want to work with young leaders, to set a strong foundation, build law-abiding citizens,” he said. Meanwhile, Goina said they would soon be recruiting reservists.
