DHERST Announces Tertiary Education Study Assistance Scheme (TESAS) for 2024 Academic Year In an official statement released today, the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology (DHERST) is delighted to inform the public about the availability of the Government of Papua New Guinea (GoPNG) Scholarship - Tertiary Education Study Assistance Scheme (TESAS) - for the upcoming academic year, 2024. The announcement encompasses a comprehensive listing of the 2024 New Intakes and Continuing Students enrolled in all recognized Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), which includes Universities and Colleges. Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister, James Marape, has confirmed the extension and expansion of the pioneering Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) scholarship program, enabling exceptional Grade 12 students from the six national schools of excellence to pursue higher education overseas. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Marape, the STEM initiative has yielded success, propelling 43 outstanding students from the STEM program at Sogeri, Kerevat, Aiyura, Passam, Port Moresby, and Wawin national schools of excellence to secure placements in American universities via scholarships funded by the Papua New Guinea Government. James Marape unveiled today a notable surge in the Government's allocation for school fee assistance in 2024, reaching a substantial figure of K856.686 million. This allocation marks an impressive upswing of K88.846 million compared to the 2023 allocation of K767.84 million. The announcement follows a comprehensive meeting between the Prime Minister and Education Secretary, Dr. Uke Kombra, assessing the Department of Education's 2023 performance and establishing priorities for the upcoming year. In an effort to support the development of aspiring professionals, Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) has extended a helping hand to four final year students from the University of Technology, granting them the opportunity to undergo a crucial four-week industrial training program set to commence this month. This industrial training initiative forms an integral component of the undergraduate studies at UNITECH, serving as a mandatory requirement for the students to become eligible for graduation from the university in March 2024.
