In an effort to support the development of aspiring professionals, Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) has extended a helping hand to four final year students from the University of Technology, granting them the opportunity to undergo a crucial four-week industrial training program set to commence this month. This industrial training initiative forms an integral component of the undergraduate studies at UNITECH, serving as a mandatory requirement for the students to become eligible for graduation from the university in March 2024. Not only does it fulfill UNITECH's stipulations, but it also aligns with the provisional accreditation bestowed upon UNITECH by Engineers Australia (EA) in 2022, with a forthcoming review for full accreditation scheduled for May 2024. The selected quartet of students, comprising two males and two females from UNITECH's School of Engineering specializing in Mining & Mineral Processing, will soon embark on their training journey in Tabubil. Dr. Jim Lem, Head of Mining Engineering Department at UNITECH, expressed gratitude to OTML for their proactive support in accommodating these students for industrial training. He commended OTML's swift response and commitment to nurturing aspiring talents, acknowledging their contribution to the students' development. Dr. Lem also highlighted the enthusiasm among 12 mining and 22 mineral science students awaiting similar engagement. He expressed hope that OTML's assistance would inspire other mining companies to partake in similar initiatives, considering the demand for industrial training placements surpasses the capacity of any single organization. OTML's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kedi Ilimbit, emphasized the company's commitment to aiding UNITECH's industrial training students, aiming to assist them in completing their course requirements and applying their theoretical knowledge in practical scenarios within the industry. Ilimbit emphasized the importance of providing guidance and support to these students, enabling them to apply their theoretical learnings in real-world mining settings. He underscored the significance of such opportunities in shaping these aspiring professionals for the demands of the industry. Highlighting OTML's broader vision of creating sustainable futures, Ilimbit emphasized the role of such initiatives in positively impacting students and molding them into the workforce envisioned for the future. Moreover, OTML reiterated its commitment to maintaining strong relationships with universities providing graduates to their training programs and workforce. Also read
