Australian High Commission Launches Women's Construction and Engineering Graduate Program in PNG1/7/2024
Initiated by the Australian High Commission in Papua New Guinea, the newly established Construction and Engineering Graduate Program for Women marked its inception in 2023, enrolling four women for a comprehensive two-year program within Australia's Economic and Social Infrastructure Program. Four months into the program, these graduates are actively enriching their academic knowledge through hands-on experience, contributing to various Australian-funded infrastructure projects. These endeavors encompass critical electrification upgrades, market revitalizations, and the establishment of a new health facility. Marsha Aruani, a recent Bachelor of Architecture graduate from the PNG University of Technology, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "Every day I am learning so many new things." She highlighted her experiences, including utilizing new technical tools, devising site layouts for solar battery generation systems, interpreting construction drawings, and participating in stakeholder coordination meetings. Expressing her gratitude, Ms. Aruani shared, "I am honored and privileged to be part of this great team dedicated to delivering infrastructure services to areas, places, and people that need it most." The graduate program signifies the increasing role of women in construction and engineering within Papua New Guinea. Its primary objective is to equip graduates to bolster PNG's development, catalyze the burgeoning economy, and bolster Australia's investments in pivotal economic and social infrastructure across PNG.
