In a recent update shared by John Rosso, Member of Parliament for LAE, significant progress has been noted at Bugandi Secondary School after a period of underperformance. Joined by Busu and Lae Secondary School representatives, Rosso expressed satisfaction at Bugandi's recent academic achievements. He commended the dedication of students, boards, teachers, and principals of these schools, attributing their success to effective management practices. The report highlighted the strides made by Lae and Busu Secondary Schools, with 235 and 225 students respectively advancing to tertiary institutions. Their placements at 04th and 06th positions out of 211 schools nationwide underscored their commendable performance. However, the spotlight remained on Bugandi Secondary School, which exhibited remarkable growth. In 2022, the Mean Rating Index (MRI) stood at 41.16, escalating to 51.75 the following year. This leap led to 84 students gaining entry into tertiary institutions, positioning the school at 38th place nationally. Principal Dennis Miall and his administration received praise for their guidance, emphasizing that consistent efforts breed progress. Moreover, the school witnessed a decline in incidents involving student conflicts or group activities over the past three years. Measures implemented during examination periods notably reduced disruptions in Grade 9 and 11 classes, fostering a safer environment. The positive transformations extended beyond academics. Bugandi Secondary School saw an uninterrupted academic calendar, overcoming past challenges such as utility stoppages due to outstanding bills. Additionally, improvements in resource availability, timely delivery of uniforms, stationery, and financial stability allowed the school to function efficiently without reliance on delayed government funding. Acknowledging the role of prudent financial management and strong leadership, Rosso applauded Principal Dennis Miall and the team for their dedication. Looking ahead, the Lae City Authority (LCA) pledged ongoing support, directing taxpayer funds to upgrade aging infrastructure across schools in the city, with priority given to Bugandi and other institutions facing similar challenges. However, the constraints of available funding dictate a gradual approach to facility enhancements, extending eventually to primary schools as well. While affirming continued support for existing institutions, Rosso outlined plans to focus efforts on improving facilities at Bumayong Lutheran Secondary School, FODE schools, and Malahang Technical Secondary School. He also hinted at potential partnerships with Don Bosco and Caritas to establish additional high schools in Lae. However, despite these strides, Rosso emphasized the need for sustained efforts to elevate overall educational standards. Stressing the importance of discipline, commitment, and hard work from educators and students, he assured continued collaboration between LCA and schools in pursuit of enhanced education quality. In conclusion, the commitment remains firm—to strive for a brighter educational future, with Rosso affirming the shared vision of elevating school performances and ensuring better prospects for the youth through continued partnership and support.
