CATHOLIC agency schools in Southern Highlands that were suspended due to General Election 2022-related violence are working hard to improve facilities to cater for extra intakes next year, an official says.
Catholic education agency secretary Daniel Beli said Kumin Primary near Mendi town, Soi Primary in Nipa-Kutubu, Rotianda Primary in Kagua-Erave and Rotianda Vocational Education Training schools were suspended. ![]() The Papua New Guinea Education Department has done its best to maintain operations of critical activities, despite being locked out of their office at Fincorp Haus since last Tuesday. Speaking to NBC News, Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra said they are temporarily operating in various locations in the city to ensure critical activities of the Department, such as handling of national examination results and teacher's salaries, are progressing well. However, he says the effectiveness of their operations have been very much affected. THREE private institutions will be included in Morobe government’s free education policy starting next year.
Senior professional assistance education services officer Berrei Karlo said the policy would include the three institutions in partnership with the provincial government and Education Department. “We are pleased to involve International Training Institute (ITI), Mapex Training Institute and Datec where the government will take ownership of paying the fees of students who will be enrolled in those institutions,” Karlo said during the ITI graduation recently. He said the policy will cover all schools from elementary to secondary including technical and vocational. Despite being situated in the heart of Port Moresby, the Holy Rosary Catholic Primary School at Six–Mile has been neglected over the last 40 years.
Since its establishment in the 1980s, the school existed without much progress being made to refurbish its aging and deteriorating infrastructure. Senior teacher and board member John Mote told The National during a brief visit this week that the school had not gone under any major renovation in the last 10 years. ![]() TEACHER appointments for the 2023 school year may be delayed because the Papua New Guinea Teaching Service Commission (TSC) is being locked out of its office, says chairman Samson Wangihomie. The TSC and the Education Department are housed at Fincorp Haus in Waigani, Port Moresby. The landlord locked the building for the non-payment of rent. “We are all over the place at the moment,” he said. “There are challenges at this point — our divisions are scattered in different locations and not under the same roof.” ![]() THE PNG Defence Force (PNGDF) plans to introduce a student cadet programme in schools to instil discipline and respect in young people, it has been revealed. Force commander Major-General Mark Goina said it would involve students from Grade One to Grade 12. “We need to instil discipline and respect in the young generation, and we need to start right at the bottom,” he said.
