![]() The Papua New Guinea Education Department has done its best to maintain operations of critical activities, despite being locked out of their office at Fincorp Haus since last Tuesday. Speaking to NBC News, Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra said they are temporarily operating in various locations in the city to ensure critical activities of the Department, such as handling of national examination results and teacher's salaries, are progressing well. However, he says the effectiveness of their operations have been very much affected. Its been a week and three days since the staff of the Education Department have been locked out of the Fincorp Building by the landlord Grand Columbia Limited (GCL), for non-payment of rental arrears totaling K39 million.
NBC News visited the FinCorp Haus yesterday and confirmed that the front gate to the building was locked with securities guarding the premises. Secretary Kombra said a rental payment of K32 million was paid by the Finance Department to the landlord within the last two weeks, covering all government rentals and a directive was given to GCL to allow staff of the Department back into their office. However, the landlord has been reluctant to allow access to its building. NBC News / PNG Education News Also read : Morobe Includes Private Schools In Free Education Policy Comments are closed.
