Muthuvel said this during presentation of a cheque for K200,000 from the provincial service improvement programme (PSIP) funds to the WNB School of Nursing in Kimbe last week. “The WNB School of Nursing has already witnessed four successful graduations, producing over 100 skilled and qualified nurses,” he said. “The increased manpower in the healthcare sector will positively contribute to the overall well-being and development of WNB and PNG. Polye said if the internal investigation into selling of grades at the university’s transcript office found any of the staff guilty, they should not just be terminated but also prosecuted in a competent court. “My position is clear, those found to have committed fraud at the UPNG and sold grades, must not only be terminated from their jobs, but must also be prosecuted,” he said. The student, Samson Kowas from Mendi in Southern Highlands, allegedly committed the crime after he was told not to insult his aunt, Naomi Kowas. “The defendant received the hand-up brief last week. He is currently a student and last week was his exam week,” said Kim Watakapura from the Office of the Public Solicitor. ![]() In August 2022, a secondary school teacher in Rabaul, East New Britain Province complained to the Ombudsman Commission. The teacher alleged that there was a delay in the refund of his returned salaries due to a dormant bank account status in 2020. The Commission made necessary enquiries with the Provincial Administration in November 2022. The matter was then referred by the Provincial Administration to the responsible division for appropriate action. The teacher was advised to have his bank account activated and to provide the necessary details to the Provincial Education Salary Payroll Section. The Papua New Guinea Education Department National Examination dates for 2023 academic year have announced. Students who are current in the following grades will sit for the national Examinations in 2023.
