TUITION Fee Free (TFF) funds for term four will be made available to schools throughout PNG when the Treasury Department releases the warrants, says education secretary Dr Uke Kombra. He said they had paid all the due payments to schools for terms one to three. “Payment for term four is the one we are following up with now to get the Treasury to release the warrants so that we can make payments to schools,” he said He said about K150 million to K170 million will be given by Treasury.
“The Government is very positive and supportive in ensuring that TFF policy is fully implemented and so we are confident that we will receive the funds for the remaining schooling term,” he said Kombra also highlighted that for the commodity component of TFF, the supplier has brought in all the supplies and distributed to the 32 distributors who are the local small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country. “Currently, almost all the provinces have received their supplies and the 32 distributors are now packing and distributing to the schools,” he said. He said that about K27 million would be paid to the local SMEs or distributors who distributed school supplies. He clarified that from the K27 million, two separate payments would be made to the distributors. “The first payment will be given to them for packing the supplies and the second payment will be made upon the confirmation from school headmasters,” Kombra said.
