NATIONAL Court has jailed a student to 13 years for raping a 10-year-old girl in Central three years ago. Judge Panuel Mogish at Waigani on Friday said students who got involved in crimes should be given strong punishment as they should be focused on their study and their education. “They tend to see the importance of their education on the eve of sentencing,” Mogish said, as he sentenced Aputi Kaspar, 24, of Central who was 21 years old at the time of the offence. “There was a difference of 11 years between him and the victim. They both were attending the same school and he was supposed take care of her,” he added.
It was before the court that between 7am and 8am on April 30, 2021, when Kaspar was walking to the school, he met the victim who was also walking to the school. He used a knife, threatened her and took her to the bushes at the side of the road. He removed the small girl’s school uniform and raped her. The victim went to school after what happened and was bleeding in the classroom. She then told the teachers of what happened when she was asked. Kaspar was arrested and charged. Kaspar pleaded guilty to the offence. Mogish said Kaspar had expressed remorse, asked the court to have mercy on him as he was a young man and did not complete his education due to the case. He said the court had considered this but this doesn’t mean it would not impose a custodial sentence as the offence committed was a serious offence. He added that raping of girls in the society has become common and it must be stopped. The National / PNG Education news Also read Comments are closed.
