He was declared yesterday when reaching the absolute majority set at 1,500 plus 1 following the elimination of the fifth candidate. This is the first time in the history of UPNG for a student at the Medical Faculty to claim the seat. In second place was a third-year Law student Cleopas Suehe who scored 1,200 plus votes, a difference of almost 200 votes, ![]() A total of 30, 000 students from 188 secondary and the 6 national high schools will sit the Grade 12 National Examinations starting on Monday 26th to Friday 30th October. Over 73, 000 Grade 10 students from 350 high & secondary schools will complete the Exams today (Friday). Over 130, 000 students from 3, 400 primary schools will sit the Grade 8 National Exams from 2nd -5th November. Only the students from the permitted schools, approved by the Department of Education will sit the three national examinations. The donated food items consisted of food items, toiletries, stationeries, a 40L hot water urn, 36L stock pot, 60L stock pot, printing ink and master roll, cement bags and two flag poles along with accessories. ![]() Students at the remote Kikori Secondary School in the Gulf province yesterday received 10 new computers donated by the Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC). The students were promised the computers when MRDC Managing Director Mr Augustine Mano visited the school on September 17, 2020. Setting education as a top priority for project impacted areas, Mr Mano visited Kikori and Omati areas to establish what MRDC and its subsidiaries need to do to upgrade school infrastructure such as classrooms and teachers houses and deliver learning equipment. ![]() Papua New Guinea EDUCATION secretary Dr Uke Kombra has issued warning on cheating in the National Examinations. “Examinations should be fair for all students,” Dr Kombra said. “There should be no cheating and we must be very careful to make sure there is fairness in the exams. “We extended the examination from the normal dates which allows time for teachers and students to catch up with the lessons that were missed and we are looking forward to students sitting the exams in a fair manner. “With cheating, we have devised some systems in the examination process to address that. People are always looking at ways of trying to cheat or try to buy or sell exam questions and my encouragement and advice to students is don’t do that to cheat,” he said. ![]() HENDRY Kolly may not be able to hear but he joined about 73,000 other grade 10s in the country to start his examinations yesterday. Kolly, 22, from Southern Highlands, is a student at Gerehu Secondary School in the nation’s capital. He has impaired hearing but that is overcome this week through the presence of sign language interpreter and teacher for persons with disability Anna Thomas. Thomas said Kolly was an average student but was committed to his education and did well at school. ![]() Students at the University of Papua New Guinea went to polls today to elect their Student Representative Council after 4 years of absence. This comes after the suspension of the SRC following the 2016 protest over political issues during the then, O'Neill led government. Polling both at the Forum square opened at 9 am this morning, with students from each faculty presenting their Identity Cards to vote. ![]() The Papua New Guinea University of Technology has been ranked the best university amongst six (6) Papua New Guinea universities according to UniRank. UniRank is an international higher education directory that reviews accredited universities and colleges in the world. For the University, this is great news since it used to be third and second best in the last couple of years but made its way to number one in August 2020. With the current ranking, the University is ranked the first followed by Divine Word University, University of PNG, University of Goroka, Pacific Adventist University and PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment. The six universities are ranked based on the criterions that the university is; being chartered, licensed or accredited by the appropriate Papua New Guinean higher education related organization, offering at least four year under graduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees (master or doctoral degrees) and delivering courses predominantly in a traditional, face-to-face, non distance education format. ![]() The family of the missing University of Papua New Guinea student MacLarence Akua has confirmed that the student has been found alive. They told local broadcaster EMTV that he was found by some UPNG students today in the Sogeri mountains north of Port Moresby. MacLarence was in a village at Sogeri. A resident of that village while visiting Port Moresby saw the UPNG students with posters of a missing person, approached them and advised them that MacLarence was with them in the village. ![]() More then 73 000 Grade 10 students will sit for the Grade 10 National Examination starting on Monday 19th and will end on Friday 23rd of October. The Education Department through the Measurement Services Division has distributed the examination materials to the provinces. Dr. Kombra instructed all examinations to be administered on the time and dates as published. Any time other than the timings given will nullify the Examination and the Examination Marks will not be used for moderation of the final results. |
