FIFTEEN students will benefit from K275,000 worth of scholarships funded by the Swire University Scholarships programme, Steamships Trading Company Ltd managing director Rupert Bray said.
Bray said the scholarships would be funded by John Swire and Sons Ltd and would come in two forms. “The two scholarships that would be available under the programme are Swire University Scholarships (SUS) and Taikoo College Scholarships (TCS),” he said. ![]() FIFTEEN participants from the Health Department, Port Moresby General Hospital and School of Medicine and Health Sciences attended a Nursing Education and Management Course in China. The training was held in Chongqing Medical and Pharmaceutical College from Sept 6-24 and was supported by the Ministry of Education of China. School principal Jorim Zira, in a circular, said: “This comes about as a result of the financial predicament the school is facing.” He said the school would only keep third-year students to complete their studies. “We cannot run the school alone on student school fees at this time when there is inflation in the country,” Zira said. “This is beyond the school’s administrations to deal with at this moment. ![]() ACTING PNG Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Department secretary Fr Jan Czuba says all universities in the country will soon introduce and follow a standardised organizational structure. Head teacher John Koifa said classrooms continued to deteriorate, there were no proper desks or tables for students. “About four students share a broken desk, some students only put their books on them and write while standing,”Koifa said. “Students have no proper toilets, the pit toilets have water during the rainy season which makes it difficult to use so they use the nearby bushes instead.” ![]() A TEACHER at Vatugoro Primary School in Rigo, Central, says the increase in the prices of goods has been a burden for people in the country. The winning team of the 2023 UPNG SRC Luther Wenge Debate Competition travelled to Auckland, New Zealand, last week. The trip was hosted by the UoA, and the Auckland University of Technology (AUT), for a week-long activity such as panel discussions, campus tours, and cultural activities. The engagement was supported by the office of the pro vice-chancellor Pacific, for both UoA and AUT, which resulted in both universities showing interest in seeing this programme grow in the future. ![]() THE Papua New Guinea Education Department recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Humanlink International Manpower Agency in the Philippines to recruit skilled Philippine teachers to teach at vocational centres throughout the country. Education Minister Jimmy Uguro said: “I am pleased with the MoU signing and our talks with the technical education skills development authority (Tesda) which is the technical and vocational education training authority in the Philippines.” |
