PAPUA New Guinea’s economy cannot grow unless more people ventured into business, University of Papua New Guinea School of Business and Public Policy deputy executive dean resources and planning Dr Lawrence Sause says.
“There is a waste of opportunity for young people to contribute through business,” he said at a one-week entrepreneurial workshop for the students. Sause is leading the ‘Beyond the Text Book’ initiative by his school. He said the workshop was aimed at getting students to think business with their specialist skills. ![]() ALL hell broke loose when fighting broke out in Mt Hagen between Mt Hagen Park and Mt Hagen Secondary schoolboys from Friday to Saturday. At least two schoolboys were killed and more than 20 others injured as reported from Mt Hagen Hospital. KULUANDA Primary School in Tari, Hela Province, has closed following the attack on police personnel by local warlords on Tuesday, a provincial education official says.
School inspector Rixson Gulai said the school located near Kupari village was the only one that was directly affected by the gun battle between the police and the warlords which left one police reservist dead and two policemen critically injured. The team consisting of cultural affairs assistant Lazarus Towa, IT manger Elvis Yakopa and resource coordinator Natasha Bodger visited the library to set up the American Corner at the facility. The US embassy officials were met by the library services director Nathan Kwasam and partnership division director Salome Yegiora and were shown the space allocated for the American Corner to be set up. Kwasam said the space allocated to the American corner used to be the old internet hub which already had the necessary connections and cabling. MOROBE education programme adviser Keith Tangui has warned teachers not to abuse the trust of their students.
It follows reports of two separate allegations this month of rape and corporal punishment in two schools in the province. Tangui said according to police reports, a teacher at Nawaeb Lutheran High School allegedly beat up a student with a stick. At Wasu Secondary, a teacher was attacked by male students for the alleged sexual abuse of female students. ![]() Divine Word University is the first university in the Pacific region to have received a Digital Anatomy Table, which was commissioned during the university’s 40th graduation recently. The Digital Anatomy table is for the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences teaching and practical learning purpose. There are only 200 of these state-of-the-art tables worldwide, and Divine Word University is lucky to be amongst the recipients. ![]() THE University of Papua New Guinea’s (UPNG) school of business and public policy has launched a week-long business planning workshop to help students develop entrepreneurial skills. Executive dean Prof Lekshmi Pillai said in Port Moresby yesterday that the programme would be followed by mid-year business planning competition. He said this was to enable students to prepare a business plan and develop an interest and aptitude toward entrepreneurship. He thanked ExxonMobil for supporting the programme. “The simple thing is the change in attitude,” he said. A WASU Secondary School senior teacher who was slashed by his students is being investigated for alleged sexual abuse of schoolgirls, Morobe commander Superintendent Jacob Singura says.
“We will investigate both cases thoroughly – the attack and slashing of the senior teacher and the alleged sexual abuses,” he said. Singura said four policemen were sent to the school in Tewai-Siassi last week and they returned on Monday with two suspects who attacked and injured the senior teacher. |
