![]() PNG PRIME Minister James Marape says the Government is aware of its responsibility to build infrastructure at education institutions in the country. Marape said this in Wewak on Thursday when opening K25 million worth of infrastructure at Divine Word University’s St Benedict’s Campus, which houses a primary school teachers’ college and a nursing school. The infrastructure includes housing for lecturers, two double-classroom buildings, an incubation laboratory, an extension to the library, accommodation for students, two units for visitors and an extension to the dining hall. ![]() The all-girls Caritas Technical Catholic Secondary School in Port Moresby were all smiles this morning, as they were graced with the presence of Princess Anne. Princess Anne was accompanied to the school by her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. In a welcome fitting for a princess, students dressed in traditional attire representing 22 provinces danced as they received Princess Anne. The Queen's only daughter said it brought back memories of her earlier family tour in 1974. ![]() STUDENTS studying science at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) will now benefit from 50 new science books donated by oil and gas producing firm Santos. The company, which merged with Oil Search last year, presented petroleum geoscience books to the UPNG school of natural and physical sciences’ earth sciences division on Thursday. Executive vice-president and co-head of PNG operations Leon Buskens said this was to enhance science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills in the region. Buskens said Santos valued its role in building Stem careers in the oil and gas industry. THE Chinese business group in Papua New Guinea has donated K160,000 to Butuka Academy to support its operations.
School’s chairlady Lady Ni Cragnolini said the money would be used for student’s teaching and learning materials. She said the Chinese business group would also provide scholarships for top five students in each class from grade one to 12 in the next three years. ![]() WINNING an award at the International Training Institute’s 58th graduation in Port Moresby on Friday came as a surprise for Kimberly Naime but she was proud to have completed her diploma in marketing and management. The 24-year-old, from Manamanu in Hiri, Central, was one of 260 graduates and claimed the principal’s award with K500. THE PNG National Airports Corporation (NAC) hosted a successful field trip for the University of Technology (Unitech) students last month to the current construction at the Nadzab airport redevelopment project.
NAC’s project management unit hosted the field trip for two groups of engineering students from the Unitech’s civil engineering department. According to an NAC statement, the students had the opportunity to tour the multi-million kina Nadzab Airport redevelopment project in Morobe. THE University of Goroka (UOG) in Papua New Guinea recently celebrated the world’s languages and Papua New Guinea’s indigenous languages.
The French embassy in Port Moresby said in a statement that this year marked the start of the international decade (2022-2032) of indigenous languages. The university’s world language strand in its language and literature division organised an event to promote the teaching and learning of languages – Bahassa Indonesia, Japanese and French are taught at UOG. ![]() The Papua New Guinea Government financial system the Integrated Finance Management System (IFMS) is expected to be restored in provinces and districts after the National Elections. Finance Department's Deputy Secretary Support Services Margaret Tenakanai explained that the IFMS is still down in the provinces, following the recent cyber-attack, it has been restored at the national department and is slowly being rolled out again to other government agencies, that meet set requirements. Ms Tenakanai said this at the recent 2-day workshop held in Kokopo, East New Britain Province. ![]() A GROUP of college students are facing charges of drinking and behaving in a disorderly manner in a public place, and damaging property, following an all-night party on Monday. It is the second incident within five months involving students from the Kokopo Business College in East New Britain. East New Britain police commander Chief Inspector Joseph Tabali said 24 students, after consuming alcohol the whole night on Monday, were arrested after they damaged properties in the area. He described the extent of the damage as serious, and confirmed that the owner of the properties has lodged a complaint with police. |
