THE Chinese business group in Papua New Guinea has donated K160,000 to Butuka Academy to support its operations. School’s chairlady Lady Ni Cragnolini said the money would be used for student’s teaching and learning materials. She said the Chinese business group would also provide scholarships for top five students in each class from grade one to 12 in the next three years. “The Chinese community wanted to support children’s learning by encouraging them to study hard because this was a special school funded by the Chinese government,” she said.
“We want many children getting the best education from this school.” School’s director Florendo Tuguinay said the school had 56 classes from prep to grade 12 and would increase next year due to the introduction of early childhood education. He said the school was the first in the country to have all schools from early childhood education to primary and secondary. Tuguinay said this year they had a total of 3,100 students. Chinese business group representative Irene Seeto said Butuka was chosen because of its high academic performances. “As Chinese entrepreneurs in Papua New Guinea, we want to do something for the community and we hope that what we do can lead to the improvement of teaching and learning for students,” she said. Seeto said they would continue to support the school in the coming years. Comments are closed.
