THE academic performances of students in Siassi local level government (LLG) in Tewai-Siassi, Morobe, Papua New Guinea is not meeting Education Department requirements, an official says. Provincial programme adviser Keith Tangui made the statement in relation to teacher absenteeism in the area which had affected student performance for the 2022 academic year. Tangui said some schools were operating with a few teachers or in some cases the staff were not consistently attending to their responsibilities.
![]() THE Papua New Guinea Teachers Association (PNGTA) has called for a six per cent pay rise before the end of the school year. PNGTA president Aita Sanangkepe said this was because teachers had missed out on the state’s three per cent pay rise for all public servants. Sanangkepe said teachers were important workers in any country and needed to be given that respect and consideration. “If you want quality human resources you make teachers happy and they will produce that quality,” he said. ![]() The Grade 10 examination markings and recording of marks have been completed by the provinces. These results have been sent to the Measurement Services Division, Education Department for entry and processing of the results. According to the Measurement Services Division (MSD), the Grade 10 examination results have been received from the provinces and these results are now being entered into the computer systems for processing. MSD says, the next step will be quality check after the data entry process is completed. The Grade 10 Examination results will be released after quality checks are done. Teacher supplies contract centre director Brian Kolowa told The National that many teachers were yet to reach the top in their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills in English. Kolowa said this after going through with more than 100 teachers in a five weeks English training test in National Capital District (NCD). He said this training test would identify their strength and weakness in order to make adjustments in their teaching. Kolowa said though they acquired masters and degrees, they still needed improvement.
