A SIX-DAY awareness was carried out in Port Moresby communities urging students to take education seriously, says Motu-Koita student association president Siosi Opao. Opao said students attending University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) promoted education to the communities to encourage students to study hard. From Nov 7-18, the awareness was about empowering and promoting education in Motu Koita. The six communities were Kilakila, Pari, Hanuabada, Tatana, Mahuru and Baruni. FIVE international students graduated with bachelor and diploma in primary teaching from Mt Hagen’s Holy Trinity Teachers College last week. Three women and a man from the Solomon Islands graduated with bachelors in primary teaching while a woman from Vanuatu graduated with a diploma in primary teaching. They were among the 234 students who passed out with bachelors and diploma in primary teachings. College principal Michael Miamel commended the international students and added studying abroad has many challenges and these students have come the hard way to come this far. THE University of Goroka in PNG is looking into implementing geology into secondary school curriculums. Lecturer Savitha De Britto said the Education Department should include earth science education in all public and private secondary schools at the Geoscience, Exploration and Extraction conference. “With this Stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) curriculum coming on board in schools of excellence, I think it is the right opportunity to have earth science education integrated into the Stem curriculum at an upper secondary level so that the graduates from there can do more, as Papua New Guinea is a mineral rich country and we need more geoscientist,” she said. THE Flexible Open Distance Education (Fode) in Papua New Guinea will be using a new learning and technology management system next year, says an official.
Founder and the chief executive of Reelae Samson Korawali said the use of this technology system will see Fode manage all their school information and have full control in its operations. Australia Awards Women Leading and Influencing (WLI) has appointed eight Alumni Representatives across Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Samoa to help facilitate WLI alumni engagement and networking and increase the in-country support available to alumni returning home to the Pacific Islands after completing their studies.
The appointments come in response to the overwhelming body of research that highlights the additional barriers faced by women alumni, compared with men, when returning home and attempting to move into and exercise leadership in professional and other domains. WLI’s focus on alumni engagement also represents a key shift in the new phase of the program, which will provide a range of in-country activities and opportunities to support WLI alumni in their transition back home. This will include (but not be limited to) access to ongoing training, coaching, mentoring and counselling support, in-country leadership learning and networking activities, Pacific-based workplace internship and professional development opportunities, and expanded funding opportunities for leadership action. The signing occurred during the Joint Annual CPA PNG/CPA Australia Conference on the 23rd of November, 2022, at the Hilton Hotel Conference Centre. This paves the way towards the ongoing Bench Marking and Accreditation process of the Unitech DBS Accounting Program. By Joe Wemin The University of Goroka (UOG) provides opportunities for Teachers to upgrade qualifications in 18 provinces in PNG. The initial mission of the University of Goroka is to train Secondary School Teachers . The Univeristy through its Institute of Distance and Flexible learning has opened up centers in 18 provinces and created opportunities for teachers to upgrade their qualifucations to degree level and early childhood educators to Diploma level. We are yet to cover Manus , ENB , Gulf and Western provinces and we are working towards setting up centers in these province . By then, UOG study centers will be established in all the provinces. The Flexible Open & Distance Education (FODE) Examination Papers have been marked and results are now being processed by FODE head office in Port Moresby. Those who sat the FODE exams will see their results published online as well. THE Headmistress of Bomana Elementary School has been committed to stand trial in the National Court for allegedly misusing K54,000 in tuition fee free subsidy money meant for the school.
Waigani Committal Court magistrate Paul Puri Nii in his ruling said there was sufficient evidence to commit Joycelyn Tapaua, 45, from Talasea in West New Britain to trial. “In my assessment with the police evidence, I have found it sufficient to commit the defendant for the charge of four counts of misappropriation under section 382A (1) (a) of the Criminal Code Act,” Nii said. The Grade 12 Examination markings for this year 2022 have been completed. According to the Measurement Services Division (MSD), the student marks are now being entered into the computers for processing . After these marks are processed and quality checks are done, the results will be made available to the follow stakeholders
