![]() The PNG Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology DHERST has released the TESAS Awards for Continuing Students and New Intakes for 2023 academic year. See the links provided at the end of this post. DHERST released the following statement . On behalf of the Ministry and the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, I hereby present the following TESAS Awards Lists for the New Intake and Continuing Students for the 2023 academic year. The recipients are students who were selected through the National Online Selection Process on the 23rd of December 2022 and continuing students who have met the GPA requirement. As the sponsor, the Government expects all TESAS Scholarship recipients of the 2023 academic year, to devote their time and commitment to their studies. Furthermore, all students must comply with the institutional rules and regulations while undertaking studies at their respective institutions. ![]() A LACK of spaces at the country’s major tertiary institutions is the reason why many eligible students are missing out of places, Higher Education Minister Don Polye says. Polye, who is Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology as well Sports, said the selection process also did not allow capable students to have a better chance of being slotted back to their second or third choices if they did not meet criterion for school of their first choice. KAINANTU MP William Hagahuno says the tertiary students’ school fee support programme for the district will only cater for those attending tertiary intuitions.
Hagahuno said the programme will not cover elementary, high, secondary national high schools. “We are looking after students who are in universities and colleges,” he said. He said the students would be required to fill a bio data that would be released on preliminary assessment. He said those who would be attending private institutions would not benefit. “Whatever compulsory fees that tertiary institution require from students to register, we will pay while parents will pay for boarding fees,” he said. He said a coordinating team would be strictly looking at acceptance letters from universities or colleges that students would be attending. ![]() The Western Pacific University (WPU) in Ialibu, Southern Highlands, will be offering new programmes soon, says University President Dr Janet Rangou. Rangou said that sustainability for quality education in research and sensitivity to the conditions of quality was one key pillar for the new Digital University and this was the institutional culture for WPU. Papua New Guinea Education Minister Jimmy Uguro told parliament that this is because the Government will continue to meet the tuition fees for students this year. ![]() THE Education Department could find itself without office space this year, as the academic year is set to begin at the end of the month. Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra said the department had received no definite answers of which building to use after they had been evicted from their office at the FinCorp building in Waigani, due to unsettled rentals. Given the workings of the formal education system, 19,874 students (about 64 per cent) were left out to fend for themselves. This year, a total of 31,155 students from 212 Grade 12 schools, including six National Schools of Excellence, sat the Grade 12 national exams. While many blamed the poor grades on General Election 2022 which forced disruption to the school year, the high number of students being pushed out of this career path keeps increasing. |
