KAINANTU MP William Hagahuno says the tertiary students’ school fee support programme for the district will only cater for those attending tertiary intuitions. Hagahuno said the programme will not cover elementary, high, secondary national high schools. “We are looking after students who are in universities and colleges,” he said. He said the students would be required to fill a bio data that would be released on preliminary assessment. He said those who would be attending private institutions would not benefit. “Whatever compulsory fees that tertiary institution require from students to register, we will pay while parents will pay for boarding fees,” he said. He said a coordinating team would be strictly looking at acceptance letters from universities or colleges that students would be attending. Hagahuno said students had to score a good grade point average (GPA) to be on the fee assistance programme.
“This year is just the start of the programme so it will not be tough but as of next year, students should have excellent academic results be able to benefit from the programme,” he said. He said the school fees would not be given in cash to a parent or student. “After verification and confirmation, we will go to Dherst and collect all selected lists and that includes continuing student lists, deposits will be made directly to schools’ accounts and receipts will be given to you,” he said.
