![]() A member of parliament has called for the termination of a teacher after she publicly expressed her concern regarding the state of their school. Huon Gulf MP, Ross Seymour, did not take too kindly to the Labu Miti teacher’s interview regarding challenges faced by her primary school in the Huon Gulf district of Morobe Province. She expressed concern on the lack of government presence, highlighting the rundown state of the makeshift classrooms at the Labu Miti Primary School. The unsafe condition of the classroom was the reason why students have not been in class for a couple of months, with concerned individuals taking the 15-minute boat ride into Lae to print out the students’ lessons and homework. ![]() THE Finance, Information Technology (IT) and Infrastructure sectors of the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) will be audited to restore credibility in the department. ![]() FUNDRAISING TARGET OF K2.5 MILLION WAS LAUNCHED The Fundraising target of K2.5 million was launched yesterday (20th May) at Dynasty Restaurant, Vision City Megamall in Port Moresby. The initiative was take by UPNG Southern Highlands Medical Students Union in collaboration with Mendi General Hospital to purchase the CT Scan Machine for Mendi General Hospital. Governor for National Capital District, Powes Parkop, was invited to witness the launching ceremony. The honourable members of the five districts of SHP including the Governor William Powi were also invited, unfortunately, non of them turned up. ![]() Dr Francis Hualupmomi has been appointed as new acting Secretary for the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST). Dr. Hualupmomi's appointment follows the suspension of DHERST Secretary Fr Jan Czuba by the National Executive Council (NEC) in its Decision No. 80/2021. Higher Education Minister Wesley Raminai formally announced this acting appointment in a media conference today. Dr Hualupmomi is a political scientist and carrier officer within the DHERST with 14 years of experience. ![]() The Member for South Bougainville and Minister for Communications, Honorable TIMOTHY MASIU yesterday created history again by Opening a double Classroom at the LARUMA Primary School which is about 10 Kilometers in the mountains of Torokina. The Classroom was completed last year but due to the covid 19 it was only opened yesterday. According to the Head-teacher, ROGER POHGA, the school has not received any assistance from anyone since the school was re-established after the Bougainville conflict. The school was established by the Catholic Missionaries in 1959 at Patsikopa to teach locals about Christianity and to make sure that the locals teach the students in their own language. The Education Department through the Measurement Services Division (MSD) has released the Examination dates for 2021. Grade 12 Examination Dates.
