"My appeal to the leaders of SHP that support must be given to this worthy cause because it is all about saving the lives of the very people you represent. "I am not from Southern Highlands Province but I am the leader of the people of SHP and it is always being by desire to create a better society, a peaceful society, and a healthy society for our people. "At all costs, as leaders, we must deliver to our people, as leaders we must care for the health of our people. The reason why those people back in the villages and districts have chosen us to be their leaders is to care for them," Parkop added. The UPNG SHP Students Union President, Jonathan Kila, thanked the NCD Governor Powes Parkop, head of Government Departments, Cooperative and Business Houses, leaders and elites of SHP who have attended the launching ceremony to give their support and contributions. Kila said, "This initiative does not affiliate with any political parties, neither do any politicians attached at the back of this initiative, except the only person who is at the back of the students is God Himself." "Such initiative has never been done before, it is the God that opened the eyes of the students to see the basic need of the Mendi General Hospital. "However, students are not in a position of purchasing that CT Scan Machine, students are not the business people, they are not the politicians. "Mendi General Hospital belongs to the five districts of SHP, hence, we will need the support and contribution from the five honourable members of the five respective districts and the provincial government to support this worthy cause so we can come up with our target of K2.5 million to purchase the needed medical equipment. The Vice President of UPNG SHP Medical Students Union, Samson Akivi, explained the reason why students have come up with the initiative. "The students have identified that there is a lack of basic medical equipment in Mendi General Hospital and sick patients have often been referred to Kundiawa hospital and Port Moresby General Hospital for CT Scan Machine. "However, Often times, many of the sick patients cannot afford to travel to distant provinces looking for proper medical equipment to identify their disease. Some of those patients are our parents, they are our siblings and relatives, and some have either died in the process of getting properly diagnosed," He said. Akivi said, "This has triggered the minds of the UPNG SHP Students to take a bold stand to come up with this initiative because it is all about saving lives. We do understand that the cost of the CT Scan Machine is far more than K2.5 million which the students cannot afford. "But we believe, we the help of our districts and provincial leaders, cooperate and business hours, we will able to purchase this medical equipment for Mendi General Hospital." #Albertis_Photography #Launching_of_Fundraising Comments are closed.
