![]() THE Finance, Information Technology (IT) and Infrastructure sectors of the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) will be audited to restore credibility in the department. Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology and Sports, Hon. Wesley Raminai announced this on Friday while addressing the media on the suspension of the Department's Secretary, Fr Jan Czuba, and the appointment of acting Secretary in Dr. Francis Hualupmomi. The National Executive Council (NEC) in its Decision No. 80/2021 has called for the suspension of Fr Jan from office and appointment of Acting Secretary for the DHERST.
NEC's decision was to allow Fr Jan to clear himself from serious of allegations that he is currently fighting through courts. Minister Raminai said "the same NEC Decision has directed my department to convene investigations on all TOR and a final report will be made to NEC". "So during the term of Fr Jan's suspension, we will make sure three sector levels of the department are audited to ensure his name is cleared. We will do financial investigation audit, IT and Infrastructure audits." Acting Secretary Dr Francis Hualupmomi said his priority and challenge during the interim of three (3) months is to implement the Minister's directives through NEC. Dr Hualupmomi said this will ensure Fr Jan's name is cleared and in so doing, restore credibility and confidence in the Department and sector levels.
