SHARDA University in India is offering a 50 percent scholarship discount to Papua New Guinean students looking to pursue tertiary education. Speaking at an education expo held at the Indian High Commission in Port Moresby earlier this month, Manu Aggarwal, assistant director for international relations at Sharda University, announced the unprecedented scholarship offer. “This is the first time we are offering a 50 percent scholarship to a country,” said Aggarwal. “We usually offer 20 to 30 percent to other countries, but PNG is the only country getting this offer, which applies to all the programs offered at Sharda.” He added that the scholarship also includes 'sibling’s scholarships' to support families who wish to send their children together.
Aggarwal explained that the average total annual tuition fee at Sharda University is about US$4,000 (approximately K15,400). With the 50 percent scholarship, the cost would be reduced to US$2,000 (about K7,700), inclusive of hostel housing, food, medical, and other school-related expenses. Sharda University, located in Delhi, India, is recognized and certified by the Indian government's University Grants Commission (UGC). The institution boasts an international student population from over 91 countries. “At present, we have about 25 students from PNG studying at Sharda,” Aggarwal noted. Indian High Commissioner, Inbasekar Sundaramurthi, also addressed the expo. He highlighted the Indian Government’s Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (Itech) scholarships, which are fully funded for graduates seeking practical skills through short-term training of three to six months in fields such as banking, science, Information Technology (IT), and personnel management. These opportunities are open for Papua New Guineans to apply. “This is the third similar expo we are hosting, following those by Parul and Global Arcus,” Sundaramurthi said. He emphasized the importance of practical education, noting that both the Indian Government and Sharda University aim to provide students with the skills needed to secure employment after graduation. Additionally, Sharda University offers pathways for students to complete the second half of their degree or bachelor’s program at other universities with which Sharda collaborates, including institutions in Europe, the United Kingdom, and the United States. check out : https://www.sharda.ac.in/ for details Also read Comments are closed.
