On Friday, July 12, 2024, eleven fourth-year students from the Australian National University’s (ANU) Pacific Affairs Department, along with three academic staff members, visited the Divine Word University (DWU) Madang Campus. The visit, organized by the DWU Partnerships Office, aimed to provide a comprehensive educational and cultural experience for the visitors. The event began with each ANU student being paired with a DWU student to promote effective communication and participation. The ANU delegation received a traditional welcome from Mrs. Josepha Wailoni, Vice President of the Madang Campus. Following morning tea, the students took an impromptu tour of the university grounds. They then attended two academic presentations: one by Dr. Kevin Pamba, a senior staff member from DWU’s Department of Governance & Leadership, on the Politics of Patronage in PNG, and another by Professor Nicole Haley and Dr. Colin Wiltshire, who shared their research findings from the last two PNG General Elections.
A panel discussion held at the SVD main auditorium featured students from both universities discussing topics related to Leadership and Governance in PNG. The insightful perspectives shared by both sides captivated the audience. Professors from both institutions also participated in a panel discussion on similar themes. The visit concluded with the ANU students performing "Waltzing Matilda" and a contemporary dance, while DWU’s Oro and Milne Bay students showcased their cultural performances. The day ended with an exchange of gifts between the students and staff of both universities, marking the success of the educational and cultural exchange. Also read Comments are closed.
