A delegation of senior education officials from Papua New Guinea recently visited Good to Great Schools Australia as part of a learning exchange program. Good to Great Schools Australia, an Indigenous-owned member organization, has been successful in partnering with schools in Indigenous communities in Queensland and the Northern Territory to improve student engagement and learning outcomes. The learning exchange was facilitated by the Australian Government’s Partnerships for Improving Education program. The program aims to generate innovative ideas and approaches to tackle challenges faced by remote rural schools in both PNG and Australia.
During their visit, the PNG delegation toured two schools in the Cape York Peninsula: Hopevale Primary and Coen Primary. They learned about the importance of using data to monitor teaching and learning and the use of consistent teaching strategies to achieve improved outcomes in literacy and numeracy. This initiative marks a significant step towards fostering collaboration and sharing best practices between the two nations, with the goal of enhancing educational experiences in rural schools.
