![]() WESTERN Highlands Governor Wai Rapa said education is one of his government’s key priority areas and he will continue to support the education sector in the province. Rapa said this during the Mt Hagen Park Secondary School’s graduation held in Hagen on Friday. “My government will continue to support the education sector by taking some of the burdens off the parents and would work closely with schools,” he said. “We will also build two new technical vocational education training (Tvet) schools to cater for the increasing number of Grade 12s that passed out every year.” Rapa encouraged the 440 Grade 12 graduating students to not feel discouraged if they did not make it into tertiary institutions.
He said the province had seven Tvet schools and students could apply there. Rapa assured students and parents that his government would continue to support the students who made it into tertiary institutions by paying some of their tuition fees. Speaking during the event, Internal Revenue Commission commissioner-general Sam Koim said the students needed to stay disciplined to have a good future.
