ENGA Governor Sir Peter Ipatas says the biggest victims of tribal warfare are children. Sir Peter said this when presenting a cheque for K300,000 to the Wabag Primary School last Thursday. “This is a reality for many and the people involved in tribal fights are turning a blind eye to this,” he said. The six-term governor said tribal fights affected Engans living in the province and this was a hugely concerning. He condemned the senselessness of tribal fighting and the unnecessary death and destruction it wrought and called on all Engans to think of their children and put their welfare first.
“If you do not listen to the appeals made by law enforcers to stop fighting, then no one else will come and stop it for you,” he said. “You keep on fighting and face the consequences, or you stop and save the future of your children.” Wabag Primary School head teacher Mark Sakol said the funding from Sir Peter’s government would be used to complete two houses for teachers and to build a new classroom building. Sir Peter also presented a cheque for K100,000 to the Enga flexible, open and distance education centre during the occasion to help meet the institution’s outstanding operational costs.
