Nukmar Primary School in the Anglimp/South-Waghi District celebrated the launch of a new double classroom, generously donated by Digicel PNG Foundation. This event marked a significant milestone for the school, which has been in operation since 2017 and currently serves 425 students. Through Digicel PNG Foundation’s Education Infrastructure Development Program, the school received a fully-equipped double classroom valued at nearly K350,000. The donation included 40 standard student desks, whiteboards, pin boards, teachers’ tables and chairs, a 9,000L Tuffa tank for clean drinking water, and an additional two 900L Tuffa tanks accompanied by a WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) facility. The construction was successfully completed by Chaperz Building Construction Company.
The School Board and Administration, along with the students, expressed their excitement during the launch ceremony. Deputy Head Mistress Naomi Nampson extended heartfelt gratitude to Digicel PNG and the Digicel PNG Foundation on behalf of the school and the mothers in the community. “I thank you for the investment you have given to our community. Also on behalf of the mothers, I thank you for the classroom and WASH facility, as we mothers cannot do marketing to pay for our children’s school fees and build such infrastructure,” Nampson stated. To date, Digicel Foundation has invested over K176 million into 675 projects across all 96 districts in PNG, including more than K2.55 million into education infrastructure development.
