Papua New Guinea Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra has announced that all schools in the countgry will end Term 2 on Friday, June 14, to accommodate the upcoming National Census. In a recent circular, Secretary Kombra explained that the changes to the National Education Calendar are in line with the Ministerial Policy Statement 02/2024. These adjustments were necessary to accommodate two events approved by the National Executive Council: the deferral of the PNG Games to 2025 and the National Census scheduled from June 17 to June 30. The circular was issued to inform all education authorities and stakeholders about the revised National Education Calendar dates for the rest of the year. Despite these changes, the Department is adhering to the Ministry Policy Statement, resulting in adjustments to the term holiday dates for Terms 2, 3, and 4 of 2024. Teaching and assessment programs for these terms have been rescheduled accordingly.
Dr. Kombra highlighted that teachers will be involved in conducting the National Census. He advised that teachers must return to their duties as soon as their census responsibilities are completed and warned that any misuse of this privilege would lead to disciplinary action. “Teachers attending pre-training for the National Census should arrange for relief teachers. School inspectors and District Education Officers are responsible for providing overall supervision and support to ensure a successful National Census,” Dr. Kombra stated. Following the Ministerial Statement issued by Education Minister Lukas Dawa Dekena, these directives are to be implemented immediately in all schools within the National Education System. All school leaders and authorities are required to comply with the new schedule. Also read Comments are closed.
