![]() THE Chinese government has given a grant of K50 million to support the education sector in Papua New Guinea, targeting secondary and technical and vocational education and training (Tvet) schools, says Prime Minister James Marape “This is part of the Chinese governments ongoing support towards the future of our school students in secondary and Tvet,” he said after his arrival in Port Moresby on Friday from China. “The grant will go towards learning resources and facilities to be maintained as students have a conducive learning environment to study for a better future.” Marape thanked the Chinese government for its continued support towards the education sector of Papua New Guinea.
“I would like to thank the Chinese President Xi Jinping for its continued support to our education sector,” he said. He said Chinese aid had also help PNG with the completion of the Western Pacific University and that was one of the milestone achievements through the country’s bilateral partnership with China in terms of education. “During my meeting with the President Xi, he is committed to give aid support to Butuka Academy and also Tvet.” Marape added that PNG was the first Pacific Island nations to sign the Belt and Road Initiative in 2018 and China had delivered the Independence Boulevard and Butuka Academy in Port Moresby. “We look forward to keeping our bilateral relationship with China strong so we can see development,” added that with Chinese government was willing to help PNG with the downstream processing sector, there was a need for citizens to get a better education. “The downstream processing sector in fisheries, forestry and agriculture will create more job opportunities for our citizens so education is seen a priority area for a better future for our generation,” he said.
