A BOOK written by a former teacher titled Early Childhood in PNG was launched on Tuesday in Lae, Morobe. The purpose of Haring Qoreka’s book is to provide a resource for teachers and schools as they implemented the Education Department’s 3-6-6 concept. Qoreka said the book was based on his 20 years of experience of teaching and serving the Education Department. He said the early childhood education book complemented the National Education plan 2020-2029 and the PNG Early Childhood education policy 2020-2023. Qoreka said the book was written to address the area of the national education system that did not have adequate research and resources. “It is a compilation of experiences that I have, plus, I did a lot of research and found that there was a gap in the policy,” he said. Qoreka, who is also chairman of the Gen-Tamo Head Start School, said the focus group of the book was teachers but it was relevant to parents and even students.
He acknowledged the Morobe education board, provincial government and stakeholders who had contributed towards the compilation of the book. He said that his experiences as a teacher at the Kabwum early childhood and coordinator, elementary coordinator and in the education reform directorate had motivated him to write the book. Deputy administrator for social services Robin Bazinuc said that the book was conceptualised in a way that it could be well understood by everyone which was good. Education board chairman Bob Aaron also challenged the Morobe government to distribute Quoreka’s book to all the schools in the province. “I do not want to see this book collect dust,” he said. “The book is written by a Morobean and it is home-grown and we should be proud of it. “We need to sell the books. “Let’s encourage this talent.” Aaron added that the government should instead buy the books and give to the schools in order to promote its own product.
