Madang students who are currently attending tertiary institutions and universities in the country will now benefit from this newly initiated Education Scholarship known as “Sir Peter Barter Education Scholarship Foundation”. The Education Scholarship Project Coordinator, Mr Sam Uyagaum says this SPB Education Scholarship is a new initiative project by the Madang Provincial Government in partnership with Ramu Nico Management (MCC) Ltd towards establishing educational pathways for the provincial human resource development for the people and the good citizens of Madang. Mr. Uyagaum mentioned that the Madang Provincial Government has already allocated K10 million for this Education Scholarship and that K10 million will cover 75% of the school fee, for both continuing and new intake of Madang students who are currently attending universities and tertiary institutions in the country.
He further adds that his office has received over 3000 plus applications from the students, however the funds that have already been allocated cannot cater for all 3000 applicants. Therefore, after screening the students, more than eight hundred students are likely to benefit from this program. Most of these students are attending the four universities in the country and the other tertiary institutions like, National Maritime College, Madang technical College & Madang Teachers College. Mr Uyagaum clarifies that the cheque has already signed by the Provincial Administrator for Madang, Mr. Frank Lau so the payment should be made into those institutions and universities by the end of this week. He then stated that since this is a new project, they will continue on with it and see how it goes and look at whatever areas where they see that they can improve from in the coming years.
