A CHIEF of Enga and the University of Papua New Guinea’s Enga Students’ Union want leaders of the province to work together to stop tribal fighting. The move is supported by the Christian Apostolic Church leaders and pastors of Port Moresby. Chief Paul Kurai, when meeting with students recently, said: “Many innocent people have died and we should not blame the leaders of the province. “Everyone must contribute to stop this law and order problem that is happening.” Kurai, who is also a businessman and founder of the Kurai Foundation, is appealing to the political leaders, councillors, magistrates, peace officers and church leaders to work together to restore peace in the province.
The union’s former president, Kingsford Noa, said law and order was one of the biggest challenges the province is facing. The final-year medical student has urged all the elites of each district in the province to take a step forward to help change the mindset of the people. “Every tribe that is going into war, have some elites and if we the students of UPNG can see something, I want to call on these people.” TheNational/PNG Education News Also read Comments are closed.
