TWO students were among three other people who were arrested in Madang for robbing two teachers at Jacinta Marine Day High School outside of Madang town on Sunday. According to police, the five arrested comprised of two school students, a 16-year-old and a 22-year-old of Alexishafen Primary School. The six and one still on the run held up the deputy principal and another senior teacher, then they entered their houses and stole their properties. Madang provincial police commander Supt David Seine Jr said five teachers reported the robbery to the police and neighbouring community leaders. “The community leaders and the youths from Midiba where the school is located handed over two suspects on the same night,” Seine said.
The suspect were picked up by night patrol police officers and were now detained at Jomba police station. Seine said quick response by police units and mobile squad in Madang led to the arrests of two more suspects. “The one still on the run is known to police and community leaders and will be arrested soon,” he said. He called on the parents of the suspect to bring him to the police. “We all must take responsibility in looking after Government services and public servants who are here to help educate or provide services to us. Stealing from or robbing them was the last thing one would do,” he said. “I strongly condemned the act of the youths. I have assured the teacher that police will charge them accordingly.” Seine said the police officers managed to recover some of the properties that were stolen and were kept as exhibits and would be presented when the suspects appear in court.
