MORE than 30,000 Grade 12 students around the country sat for the national written expression examinations on Monday as scheduled, Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra has said. Kombra said the examinations went ahead as per secretary’s circular instructions and provincial education authorities, parents and general public were asked to respect and support the 32,206 students and allow them to complete the exam. “These are our future leaders and we must play our part to ensure that they feel safe to travel to school, especially with the election-related disturbances in the last couple of weeks,” he said. Kombra said everyone involved in the examination process were advised to prevent all tendencies towards any malpractices that might compromise the results. East New Britain Governor, Michael Marum made his first public appearance at a small but significant gathering at the Mapex Training Institute Graduation last Friday. Mr. Marum delivered his keynote address to an audience of 125 students who passed out of the Institute. He said such technical and practical institutions, such as Mapex deserve due recognition from the government, and the service it provides meets current demands in the country. CLASSES at the University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) Oro campus will resume with police on the ground to give security, a senior officer says. Northern police commander Chief Insp Ewai Segi said the provincial government and university administration had decided on this action following an attack on the students and school property recently. “UNRE incident was addressed by the provincial government and the UNRE director while I was away,” he said. ALL remote schools in the education system will receive a special payment of K10 million as an additional grant in the fourth term, Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra says. Kombra said the additional grant would be paid in the last term with the Government Tuition Fee Subsidy (GTFS) for 2022. “Remote schools will receive their K10 million special grants together with the K158 million budgeted for the final quarter payment,” he said. “Remote schools face higher costs of services. “This is a subsidy on top of their normal grants to support schools.” Meanwhile, Kombra said all subsidies for term three would be paid soon. The Grade 12 Written Expression Examination for this year 2022 is on Monday 15th of August.
