![]() The Papua New Guinea Department of Education has recognised top performing students in the Grade 10 examinations with Ministers Awards. The secretary of Education, Dr. Uke Kombra announced the awards when launching examination results for the 2023 academic last Friday. According to the secretary, the there were over 70,000 Grade 10 who sat the examinations this year (2023). For the first time, the department is recognizing the top performing students in each of the subjects offered at Grade 10 level. 'He said, the awards will be now called Ministers Awards. The students will get special certificates and other awards from the Education Minister Hon. Jimmy Uguro The Ministry of Education in Papua New Guinea has awarded the top performing students in the STEM Examination.
The students will be also awarded scholarships to study in the United States of America. The Minister's awards were given to three students from each subject who ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively in one of the STEM subjects. ![]() The Education Department has announced the top performing Secondary Schools and Schools of Excellence . The Teaching Service Commission’s (TSC) commissioner policy chairman, Samson Wangihomie, made the remarks during the 58th graduation ceremony of Balob Teachers College in Lae, Morobe, on Saturday. Wangihomie emphasised on the college’s motto “Balob to serve,” which stated that the institution’s graduates must be committed and must work hard to serve their vocation. “Some choose a teaching career for the sake of working and earning an income, but some choose the profession as a noble vocation so they can be committed in their teaching,” he said. “Dress up decently and professionally because you will be a role model to your students. ![]() FOUR French scientists from Paris and Noumea are in Papua New Guinea (PNG) to engage with local scientists and university students and academics in developing initiatives for long-term collaboration and analysis of human activities within the region. Their visit culminated from a visit to PNG by French President Emmanuel Macron in July where a joint declaration was signed with the Government. The declaration agreed for both countries to work hand-in-hand and formulate a country package on nature, forest and climate. A media statement about the visit said the scientists included Laurent Durieux and Marc Despinoy from the French research institute for sustainable development’s Geospatial4PICTS programme based in New Caledonia and Insight Solutions Geospatiales director Jean Massenet and project manager Pearl Winchester. ![]() TOTALENERGIES PNG Ltd (TEP PNG) has signed an understanding with the University of Technology (Unitech) to offer scholarships to third-year students beginning in the New Year. The Papua LNG project operator scholarship programme would initially target the electrical, mechanical or civil engineering, applied physics, communication for development, geographical information sciences or a bachelor of science in agriculture disciplines. TotalEnergies BSE director Marie-Alix Dognin said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing recently sealed a partnership where they would support scholarships at Unitech. “We are used to working with institutions in Port Moresby which is easy to run in terms of logistics and links and this is the first time to have a close partnership with an institution in Lae,” Dognin said. ![]() Papua New Guinea EDUCATION Minister Jimmy Uguro has issued a warning to those misusing the department’s payroll system which is affecting the salaries of teachers. “Every public servant is paid to do their job. “I am challenging our public servants in our education payroll system not to make (illegal) arrangements. “If you are caught, you will be axed. “Do the right thing for our teachers and we will grow our nation together,” he said. Uguro said this in Parliament this week in response to questions raised by Western Governor Taboi Yoto regarding the non-payment of entitlements for teachers. |
