![]() TEACHING is a noble profession and a vocation that comes with great responsibility and commitments, says an official. The Teaching Service Commission’s (TSC) commissioner policy chairman, Samson Wangihomie, made the remarks during the 58th graduation ceremony of Balob Teachers College in Lae, Morobe, on Saturday. Wangihomie emphasised on the college’s motto “Balob to serve,” which stated that the institution’s graduates must be committed and must work hard to serve their vocation. “Some choose a teaching career for the sake of working and earning an income, but some choose the profession as a noble vocation so they can be committed in their teaching,” he said. “Dress up decently and professionally because you will be a role model to your students. “Be punctual and act according to teaching ethics.”
Wangihomie’s advice was aligned to the Government’s vision that every school was to deliver quality teaching and learning for quality education. “Know why you chose that profession because the future of our children will depend on your conduct, how you present yourself and your lessons in class.” Balob Teachers College belonged to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG and its associate partner, the Anglican Church, but is fully funded by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (Dherst). The college and other similar institutions were transferred from the Education Department to Dherst in 2021 and offered a three-year diploma programme. Wangihomie acknowledged ELCPNG and other church partners in delivering education services to citizens based on the Government’s priority of “leaving no child behind”. He said the Government had increased funding for the education sector for a better future. College principal Jerry Hendingao congratulated the graduates and urged them to put into practice what they had been taught at Balob as they take up teaching.
