PM Marape urges UPNG to Offer Business Management Course as Complimentary course in all faculties3/13/2023
PRIME Minister James Marape has urged the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) to include the business management course as a complementary course in all the five faculties in the university. Marape said while pledging a K5 million which will be funded by the Government to upgrade the university library to a modern e-library. He said the funding should help with the renaming of the library from Michael Somare Library to Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare Library, as well as facilitating a modern digital approach by upgrading the library to an e-library. Marape said it would help with the concept of implementing business courses as a complementary course in the schools witih UPNG.
“You can be a mathematics, law, political science, biology student but you must know how to make money, or run a business,” he said. “This is to ensure that all our citizens have basic understanding on how to start up and run businesses. “The more business activities we have in our country the more opportunities we can create. “So the idea of having an e-library blends in perfectly with this notion,” he said. Marape said an e-library would enable students to research in various fields, especially business, and not only focus on their selected faculty or programme that they were selected to study. He said having a business course being compulsory in all schools as well an e-library center with up to date resource material, he hopes students can be able to come up with business concepts, plans, strategy. Meanwhile, Marape urged the University of Papua New Guinea’s school representative council to work together with the other universities and colleges in the country and collect data of graduates who were still unemployed.
