![]() PNG PRIME Minister James Marape has commended student leaders of the country’s tertiary institutions for organizing a forum that saw him and the Opposition Leader come together to discuss issues of national importance. The Prime Minister said students have shown a high level of maturity in allowing for a “first of its kind discussion” that he wants to see continue into the future. “I appreciate their maturity for setting standards on how universities, as institutions of higher learning and intellectual discourse, can take leadership rationally and responsibly while allowing for debate on national issues to take place,” said PM Marape. “This forum was well organized; the students were mature and well behaved. “I look forward to participating in more of such programs. I would like to return to UPNG and do a presentation on our country’s economic history – where we have come from and where we are heading,” said PM Marape.
A forum, called the National Panel Discussion, was organized by the Students Representative Council of the University of PNG on Wednesday (05.04.23) at the UPNG main lecture hall and included SRC leaders of all the country’s leading tertiary institutions. The event hosted Prime Minister Marape and Opposition Leader Hon. Joseph Lelang who participated by fielding questions on pressing national issues put forward by the student leaders and discussing the issues before them. Topics covered included the Economy of the Country and Inflation, Unemployment, Review of the Constitution, Law & Order, the proposed Gold Refinery and others. Students filled the auditorium to capacity with large numbers seated outside hoping for a chance to hear the two leaders. FM 100 / PNG Education News Also read Comments are closed.
